Infernal Hordes is a wave-based endgame mode set in the Burning Hells. You open a run with an Infernal Compass, then fight through ten escalating waves of demons while collecting Burning Aether from the enemies you kill. After each wave you pick one of three Infernal Offers, each pairing a boon with a bane, so you can trade extra risk for extra reward. Once the waves are cleared you face three random members of the Fell Council, then spend your Burning Aether on Spoils of Hell chests for the loot you actually want.

What Infernal Hordes Is Best For

Beyond the drops from a single run, Infernal Hordes is the most efficient place in Diablo 4 to farm Masterworking materials and Greater-Affix gear. The Spoils of Materials chest pays out Obducite, Ingolith, and Neathiron, the three materials Masterworking runs on, while the Spoils of Greater Equipment chest gives you a top-tier item with a guaranteed Greater Affix. Add steady Gold and Glyph XP on top, and it becomes the loop you run once your build is set and you are chasing the final upgrades.

How do I unlock Infernal Hordes, and do I need an Infernal Compass?

Infernal Hordes unlocks once per account by finishing the Eyes of the Enemy quest, which also gives you your first Infernal Compass. Each run after that uses a Compass, and they drop from Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, Tree of Whispers caches, and The Pit. If you do not have Compasses ready, mention it when you order so the team can sort the entry requirement before the run starts.

Which tier should I run, and what does a higher tier change?

Higher Compass tiers raise the difficulty of the waves and, in return, increase how much Burning Aether you collect and how good the rewards are, including more Masterworking materials and higher-quality gear. The usual approach is to run the highest tier you can clear cleanly; with a boost you simply choose the tier you want and the booster handles it.

In a Self-Play party run, does the booster take any of my loot?

No. In Infernal Hordes, loot and Burning Aether are earned per player, so in a Self-Play run everything that drops for you is yours alone and the booster cannot take any of it. With Piloted the booster plays on your own account, so there is nothing to share in the first place.
