What's Live in Midnight Right Now

Midnight's Season 1 endgame runs until 18 August 2026. Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek, goes live on 11 August 2026, and Season 2 begins a week after it on 18 August. Below is what Season 2 opens with. Some of that content unlocks on its own schedule after the patch lands, and where that is the case we have written the date in rather than implying it is playable now.

• The Venomous Abyss - Season 2's raid. Eight bosses under the Coiled Isle and through the Temple of Ula'tek, ending on Ula'tek herself.
• The Tidebound Grotto - A lair, not a raid: one boss, Nymrissa Wavecaller, entered from a summoning stone instead of a raid portal. World difficulty opens in the week of 12 August; Normal, Heroic and Mythic Flex open in the week of 19 August.
• Mythic+ - A refreshed dungeon rotation with one brand-new instance, Altar of Fangs, and a rating ladder running from Keystone Explorer up to Keystone Myth.
• Delves - Scalable instances you can run solo or in a small group, with Azta'rec as the season's nemesis boss.
• The Prey system - Named elite targets hunted in the open world against a weekly cap, raised for Season 2.
• Coiled Isle and the Zul'jarra Forces - The season's world zone and its renown track, alongside the Vaults of Atal'Utek public activity.
• PvP - A new rated season with a new Elite set, a new weapon illusion and the season's rated mounts.
• Mistcrests - Season 2's gear-upgrade currency. Season 1's Dawncrests stop mattering at the turn.

What carries across the turn is your characters, your crest habits and your weekly rhythm. What does not carry is Season 1 gear relevance and every season-locked reward: seasonal mounts, seasonal titles and season-locked achievements stop being obtainable and do not come back.

What Midnight Changed

Midnight is the second chapter of the Worldsoul Saga. It launched on 2 March 2026, moved the game's hub to Silvermoon City in Quel'Thalas and raised the level cap to 90. If you last played an expansion or two ago, the shape of a week has changed more than the numbers have.

The endgame is no longer raid-or-Mythic+ with everything else as filler. Delves are full instances with scalable tiers you can run solo or in a small group, and they feed the same weekly reward chest that raids and dungeons feed. The Prey system puts named elite targets in the open world behind a weekly hunt cap, so world play has a progression track rather than a daily list. Renown runs on Warband factions - Midnight launched with four, and Season 2 adds the Zul'jarra Forces on the Coiled Isle. Player Housing shipped with the expansion as its own system. And lairs are the newest structural change: single-boss instances with real difficulty tiers and their own lockout, standing where tagged open-world bosses used to.

How Midnight's Endgame Fits Together

Every endgame system in Midnight pays into the same two things - the item level on your character, and the currency that upgrades it. That is why "which content should I run" has a real answer instead of a preference.

Raid difficulties sit at the top of the item-level ladder, and the flagship raid's last bosses drop the highest gear in the season. Mythic+ pays less per item but pays on every run, several times a week, and it is the only system with a rating attached to it. A lair is a single weekly boss: a small, fixed piece of progress you can take in one sitting. Delves scale up in tiers and are the one endgame path that needs no group at all. World content and prey hunts sit below all of it on item level, but they are the cheapest weekly progress in time terms and they feed the same chest as everything else.

None of these are alternatives to each other. The character that gears fastest in a Midnight season does not belong to the player who picked the best system - it belongs to the one who took something from each row of the weekly chest, then spent the week's crests on the slots the chest did not cover.

How the Weekly Reset Pays Out

The Great Vault is the weekly chest, and it is the system players read wrong most often. It has three rows, each fed by different content, and each row unlocks up to three reward slots as you hit that row's thresholds.

• Raids - Slots unlock at 2, 4 and 6 raid bosses killed that week, on any difficulty. The item level offered scales with the difficulty of the bosses that filled the slot.
• Dungeons - Slots unlock at 1, 4 and 8 Heroic, Mythic or Timewalking dungeons completed.
• World - Slots unlock at 2, 4 and 8 delves or world activities completed.

You then claim exactly one reward from the entire Vault. Fill all nine slots across all three rows and you still take a single item; the rest are discarded the moment you claim. The Vault is a best-single-item-of-the-week system, not a loot pile - up to nine choices, one claim.

Two things follow from that, and both change what is actually worth buying. First, a single boss kill cannot fill a raid row: the first raid slot needs two bosses, so a lone endboss kill or a lair kill contributes one boss and on its own unlocks nothing there. A single-boss product is worth buying for its own lockout and its own drops, never as a Vault fill. Second, because you only ever claim one item, the value of a big week is not the size of the pile - it is the odds that at least one of those choices lands in a slot you actually need. That is what running two systems buys you over hammering one.

Crests, Upgrade Tracks and Where They Drop

Item level in Midnight arrives on tracks. A piece drops on a track - the lower tracks from world content and low delve tiers, the higher ones from raid difficulties and the top Mythic+ brackets - and each track has a set of upgrade steps you buy with crests. The track a piece drops on sets its ceiling; the crests you spend decide how much of that ceiling you reach.

Crests come in tiers of their own, and the tier a piece of content pays is set by its difficulty, not by which system it belongs to. The same crest tier can come from a raid difficulty, a Mythic+ bracket, a delve tier - and from a lair. A lair kill pays a crest tier that scales with the difficulty you clear, which makes one weekly boss a real upgrade-currency source rather than just a gear drop. That is a solid reason to take a lair at the highest difficulty you can field a group for, not the lowest one that drops usable gear.

Blizzard also extends the upgrade tracks partway through a season, adding steps above the ceiling the season launched with. Treat any "maximum item level" figure you read - on this site or anywhere else - as the number for right now rather than the number for the season. What stays true is the shape: harder content drops on higher tracks and pays higher crest tiers, and crests are what turn a drop into a finished piece.

Where to Start, Depending on Where You Are

Fresh at the cap, or back after a break. Gear first, rating later. The quickest way out of the entry item-level band is world content and delve tiers, then Heroic and Mythic 0 dungeons, then the raid on its lowest difficulty once a group will take you. A gear package or a delve bundle covers that whole stretch in one order. Rating comes after, not before - the ladder is far easier to climb out of a full set than a fresh one.

Geared, mid-season, chasing rewards. This is where the rating ladder and the achievement runs are worth real money, because they are the things that stop existing at the season's end. Keystone tiers, the raid's Ahead of the Curve and Cutting Edge, Glory meta mounts, rated PvP mounts and titles - season-locked, every one of them.

On an alt, or short on time. Take the single-sitting content: the lair, one Mythic+ bracket, a delve tier. That is the whole point of a three-row chest - three short runs across three different systems fill more of your week than one long night in a single one.
