By Published: Updated: ~8 min

The complete Diablo 4 Season 14 day-one checklist: exact launch time by region, the priority order from rolling a Seasonal character and starting A Gospel of Despair to hitting Level 70, climbing the Pandemonium Ruptures ladder, farming the Corrupted Reaper for Mythic Uniques, claiming every free launch reward, and building a gold cushion.

Diablo 4 Season 14, Season of Death Awakening, goes live Tuesday, 30 June 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT on patch 3.1.0. On day one, do these in order: roll a Seasonal character, start the season questline A Gospel of Despair in Kyovashad, race to Level 70, climb the Pandemonium Ruptures ladder in Helltides to unlock the RealmwalkerDeathtoll ChamberCorrupted Reaper loop, bank Superior Lair Keys and Pandemonium Fragments for Mythic Uniques 3.0, grab your free day-one rewards, and build a gold cushion early.

A season launch resets the whole ladder - fresh character, fresh mechanic, fresh Season Journey and battle pass. The players who finish the first weekend ahead are the ones who don't waste day one wandering. This is the no-fat version: the exact priority order, with the fastest line through each step and the free stuff most checklists forget to mention.

The 3.1.0 patch has been pre-loadable since 25 June, so update before launch day. If you log in early you'll sit on the Eternal realm until the season flips - the Seasonal checkbox only appears at character select once the season is live. Two quick prep jobs while you wait: clean out your stash so you have room for drops, and decide your class in advance so you're not stuck choosing on the loading screen.

Step 1 - Roll a Seasonal Character and Pick Your Class

All season progress - the Pandemonium mechanic, the Season Journey, the battle pass - lives only on Seasonal characters. At character creation, tick Seasonal; Eternal characters get none of it. Season 14 also makes Solo Self-Found a permanent mode: it disables trading and grouping for a pure solo run with its own leaderboards. Pick standard Seasonal for the full experience, Hardcore if you want permadeath stakes, or Solo Self-Found if you want to earn everything yourself.

For the class itself, don't overthink the opener - the season rewards time on task more than a theory-crafted build. Quick day-one pointers on the 3.1.0 balance: Druid was buffed and is a strong, safe leveler; Spiritborn with the Stinger build is the fastest 1-to-70 route in the game; and Barbarian was nerfed but is still a reliable, durable pick. Whatever you choose, lean into AoE so you can clear Rupture packs quickly. For a full breakdown, see our best-classes guide. Note that Paladin and Warlock are locked to the Lord of Hatred expansion (Season 14 includes a free Warlock trial to test the caster), and a slice of Season Journey objectives need the expansion too.

Step 2 - Start the "A Gospel of Despair" Questline

This is the single most important day-one objective, because the seasonal questline is what unlocks the Pandemonium loop and the Corrupted Reaper. Skip it and the entire season mechanic stays locked, so do it before you settle into farming.

On your Seasonal character, travel to Kyovashad and read the ominous scroll to begin A Gospel of Despair - a raven brings a warning, and you're sent to uncover a Death Cult in Zarbinzet (south-west Hawezar). Finishing the questline unlocks the Corrupted Reaper, the seasonal Lair Boss, and points you at the right zones for the rest of the checklist.

Step 3 - Race to Level 70

The level cap is 70. At 70, XP rolls into Paragon, and the Season Rank track alone hands out up to 42 Paragon Points and up to 12 Skill Points across nine ranks and 120+ objectives - so leveling fast compounds into power all season. The fastest day-one line:

Skip the campaign if you've already finished it (the skip carries to seasonal) and go straight into the questline and open world. Stack Helltides - they're where Pandemonium Ruptures concentrate, so you level and progress the season mechanic in the same loop. The two fastest known routes are the Helltide Hellwyrm difficulty-swap method and the Undercity Jade Epiphany farm, both of which can take a fresh character to 70 in about an hour. Running in a group or with a carry is dramatically faster, which is why power leveling is the most-requested day-one service every season.

Step 4 - Climb the Pandemonium Ruptures Ladder

Pandemonium Ruptures are the headline Season 14 mechanic - arcane tears that spawn in Helltides, open zones and Nightmare Dungeons. You open one by clearing the guardians around a Death's Head Idol, then keep it active by closing Tears. They come in three sizes, and you climb them like a ladder.

Rupture size
Where it spawns
What it gives
Normal
Overworld, concentrated in Helltides
Close them for Glints of Hope and Season reputation; never spawns a Realmwalker
Surging
Replaces a local event inside a Helltide
A chance to spawn a Realmwalker
Colossal
Only in the Fields of Desecration (World Boss arena SE of Zarbinzet)
A guaranteed Realmwalker

Killing a Realmwalker opens a portal to the Deathtoll Chamber, a one-room mini-dungeon that is the best source of Superior Lair Keys. Watch the new monster family, The Risen: Gravehounds drop orbs that float to an Exarch and empower it, so intercept the orbs before they arrive or you'll be fighting a juiced-up elite.

Step 5 - Farm Superior Lair Keys and Mythic Uniques

The end of the chain is the Corrupted Reaper, the seasonal Lair Boss, summoned at the Pandemonium Threshold lair near Zarbinzet (unlocked by the season campaign). Its Hoard opens at Torment 1 and above with a Superior Lair Key, and it's the single best direct source of Mythic Uniques and Pandemonium Fragments in the season. If you'd rather not grind the chain, a Corrupted Reaper boss carry gets you to the loot faster.

Why Fragments matter: under Mythic Uniques 3.0, Mythic is now a quality upgrade, not a drop rarity. Every Unique can become Mythic - either it drops that way, or you convert one in the Horadric Cube with 5 Pandemonium Fragments plus one 850+ item-level Unique of that slot. A Mythic Unique is always Ancestral, gains +30% Unique Power, and rolls every other affix at maximum. So the day-one loop is simple: Ruptures → Realmwalker → Deathtoll Chamber (keys) → Corrupted Reaper (Mythics and Fragments) → convert the Uniques you want.

Step 6 - Claim Your Free Day-1 Rewards

Three free reward sources open at launch, and skipping them on day one leaves value on the table. None of them cost Platinum.

First, the free Overwatch Reliquary: kill Elite and Champion monsters to earn Eye of the Overwatch currency, then spend it on emblems, a mount trophy, weapon skins, an earnable dye, and - on completion - Kiriko's Fox Spirit companion. Second, the Season Blessings: spend the Smoldering Ashes you earn through the Season Journey on account-wide buffs. Activate the Urn of Death Awakening first for more Glints of Hope reputation (which feeds your Fragments), then the Urn of Masterworking for extra Obducite. Third, the launch Twitch Drops: watch two hours of eligible Diablo 4 content between 30 June and 14 July to earn the Final Headache two-handed mace cosmetic. Also clear easy Season Journey objectives as you go - they hand out free Skill and Paragon points.

Step 7 - Build a Gold Cushion

Gold is the quiet bottleneck. Masterworking, enchanting affixes at the Occultist, and Horadric Cube rerolls all drain it fast - and those are exactly the steps that turn a leveled character into a Torment-pushing one. Players who ignore gold on day one hit a wall the moment they want to optimize their first good drop.

For fast early gold, sell or salvage everything you don't need, run Helltides (gold, cinders and Ruptures in one loop), and don't over-spend rerolling early gear you'll replace within a day. If you'd rather not grind the economy, a Diablo 4 gold top-up covers your masterworking and rerolls so progression never stalls on currency. One last day-one tip: in the Horadric Cube, enchant a Greater Affix and choose "don't change" to lock it so a later reroll can't remove it - but keep deep Cube optimization for later; on day one, just keep moving down the checklist.

FAQ

What time does Diablo 4 Season 14 start?

Season of Death Awakening launches 30 June 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT (1:00 p.m. EDT, 6:00 p.m. BST, 7:00 p.m. CEST, 8:00 p.m. Moscow time), the moment Season 13 ends. The 3.1.0 patch has been pre-loadable since 25 June, so update before launch day to avoid losing your first hour to a download.

What should I do first on day one of Season 14?

Roll a Seasonal character, then immediately start the A Gospel of Despair questline in Kyovashad - it unlocks the Pandemonium Ruptures loop and the Corrupted Reaper. Don't farm endgame before you've started the season quest, or the seasonal mechanic stays locked. After that, race to Level 70 and begin climbing the Rupture ladder.

Do I need the Lord of Hatred expansion to play Season 14?

You can play the season on the base game, but some content is expansion-locked: the Paladin and Warlock classes, and a portion of Season Journey objectives (roughly 15%). Season 14 includes a free Warlock trial so you can test the caster without owning the DLC. Most dedicated players recommend owning Lord of Hatred for the full seasonal loop.

Which class should I start Season 14 with?

There's no single best pick, but on the 3.1.0 balance Druid was buffed and is a strong, safe leveler, Spiritborn with Stinger is the fastest 1-to-70 route, and Barbarian was nerfed but remains durable and reliable. Pick a class with good AoE for the Rupture grind and don't overthink the opener - time played beats theory-crafting in the first weekend.

How fast can I hit Level 70 in Season 14?

The fastest known routes - the Helltide Hellwyrm difficulty-swap method and the Undercity Jade Epiphany farm - can take a fresh character to 70 in about an hour. Stacking Helltides is ideal because you level and progress Pandemonium Ruptures at the same time. Running in a group or with a carry is faster still.

How do Mythic Uniques work in Season 14?

Under Mythic Uniques 3.0, Mythic is a quality upgrade, not a drop rarity. The Corrupted Reaper is the best source of Fragments.

What free rewards can I grab on day one?

Three: the free Overwatch Reliquary (earn Eye of the Overwatch from Elites and Champions, completing it for Kiriko's Fox Spirit companion), the Season Blessings (spend Smoldering Ashes from the Season Journey on account buffs - Urn of Death Awakening first), and the launch Twitch Drops (watch two hours of eligible Diablo 4 content from 30 June to 14 July for the Final Headache mace).

Should I play Seasonal, Hardcore, or Solo Self-Found?

Standard Seasonal is the default and gives the full experience. Solo Self-Found is new as a permanent mode in Season 14 - it disables trading and grouping for a pure solo run with its own leaderboards. Hardcore adds permadeath stakes. All three are Seasonal; only Eternal characters miss out on the season content entirely.
