Pandemonium Fragments are the Season 14 material that powers Mythic crafting: feed them into the Horadric Cube's Upgrade to Mythic recipe and you turn a Unique into a random Mythic Unique of the same gear slot. As of the July 14 patch (3.1.1) a craft costs 4 Fragments instead of 5, the Corrupted Reaper now drops up to two per kill, and the repeatable reputation reward finally guarantees one - so farming them just got meaningfully faster.
This guide covers every source, the exact crafting rules, the changes in patch 3.1.1, the most efficient farming loop, and when to spend your Fragments versus when to hold them.
Pandemonium Fragments at a Glance
The short version before the details:
Field | Detail |
|---|---|
What they are | The Season 14 material for the Horadric Cube's Upgrade to Mythic recipe |
Cost per craft | 4 Fragments (reduced from 5 in patch 3.1.1) plus a Unique base of 850+ Item Power |
What you get | A random Mythic Unique of the same gear slot as your base item |
Best source | The Corrupted Reaper - up to 2 Fragments per Hoard since 3.1.1 |
Other sources | Seasonal Reputation Board, Resplendent Caches, Pandemonium Ruptures |
The bottleneck | Superior Lair Keys to open the Reaper's Hoard |
Key rule | Only one crafted Mythic can be equipped at a time |
What They Do: The Upgrade to Mythic Recipe
Fragments exist for one thing - the Horadric Cube's Upgrade to Mythic recipe. The rules:
Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
Cost | 4 Pandemonium Fragments (was 5 before patch 3.1.1) |
Base item | A Unique of the target slot at 850+ Item Power - the better the base, the better the investment |
Result | A random Mythic Unique of the SAME gear slot - a Unique bow always becomes a Mythic bow |
Mythic quality | The result rolls all affixes at maximum and gains 30% Unique Power |
Equip limit | Only one crafted Mythic can be worn at a time; naturally dropped Mythics are not restricted |
Exclusions | Mythic Uniques cannot be used as the base, and Iconic Mythics are NOT in this pool |
Two things people mix up: this Cube path is separate from the Resplendent Sparks recipes (the Blacksmith's random Iconic Mythic and the Jeweler routes), and because the result is random within the slot, you are gambling - a cheaper gamble since 3.1.1, but still a gamble. The full recipe economy is in our crafting cheat sheet.
What Changed in Patch 3.1.1
The July 14 patch made Fragments cheaper to use and faster to farm:
- Craft cost cut from 5 to 4 Fragments - every craft is 20% cheaper, so stockpiles stretch further.
- The Corrupted Reaper now drops up to two Fragments, scaling with your Torment tier - previously the Hoard paid exactly one per kill.
- The repeatable Glints of Hope reputation reward now guarantees a Fragment - before the patch, players widely reported it paying nothing.
- Deathtoll Chambers now always reward at least one Superior Lair Key on high Torment tiers, easing the key bottleneck.
- Bonus context - the same patch fixed a bug where some sources (including Lair Bosses) dropped no Mythics at all, and raised the odds that a natural Mythic drop rolls as an Iconic.
Every Source of Pandemonium Fragments
There is no single faucet - the income adds up across four activities:
Source | What it pays | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Corrupted Reaper Hoard | Up to 2 Fragments per kill (scales with Torment) | The target farm; needs a Superior Lair Key |
Seasonal Reputation Board | Guaranteed Fragment from the repeatable Glints of Hope reward | Reputation comes from Elite kills anywhere |
Resplendent Caches / Season Rank | Fragments as you climb the seasonal track | Passive background income for active players |
Pandemonium Ruptures | Fragments and progress toward keys | Best farmed inside Helltides |
Whatever you farm, push the highest Torment tier you can clear comfortably - it raises both the Fragment payouts and the quality of everything else that drops alongside them.
The Corrupted Reaper: The Target Farm
The seasonal Lair Boss in the Pandemonium Threshold at Zarbinzet is the one repeatable, targetable Fragment source - and since 3.1.1 the strongest:
- Unlock - finish the seasonal questline to open the Pandemonium Threshold.
- The Hoard - after the kill, open the Hoard with a Superior Lair Key for up to two Fragments (scaling with Torment), plus a shot at Mythic Uniques themselves.
- War Plans bonus - Lair-boss War Plan nodes can add an extra chest to the kill, stacking more loot on the same key.
The fight itself is fast but mobile - the boss teleports constantly - so bring a build that can hit on the move. Full tactics are in our Corrupted Reaper boss guide.
Superior Lair Keys: The Real Bottleneck
Fragments flow only as fast as your keys, so this is where the grind actually lives:
- Deathtoll Chambers - the intended source, reached by defeating a Realmwalker or entering through Surging Ruptures in Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons with the Ruptures affix. Since 3.1.1 a high-Torment chamber always rewards at least one key.
- Belial ambushes - Belial can invade after Lair Boss kills; putting him down pays a Superior Lair Key, which makes chain-running Lair Bosses a reliable key farm.
- Stock up first - each key is one Reaper Hoard, so bank several keys before a farming session rather than running them one at a time.
Note the rename: Superior Lair Keys are the item formerly called Betrayer's Husks, updated now that Belial is not the only boss in that tier.
Reputation Board, Caches & Ruptures
The passive income side keeps Fragments flowing between boss sessions:
- Seasonal Reputation Board - reputation now comes from Elite kills anywhere, not just seasonal events, so it fills while you do your normal farming. After finishing the main track you keep earning repeatable rewards, and the Glints of Hope reward now guarantees a Fragment. Since 3.1.1 there is also a board in Temis.
- Resplendent Caches and Season Rank - the seasonal rank track tops you up with Fragments in the background; for many players this quietly becomes their biggest source.
- Pandemonium Ruptures - sealing Ruptures, best done inside Helltides, pays seasonal progress and feeds the Realmwalker chain that leads to Deathtoll Chambers.

The Efficient Farming Loop
Put together, the loop that maximises Fragments per hour looks like this:
- 1. Park in an active Helltide and clear every Rupture you cross - reputation, seasonal progress and Realmwalker spawns all tick up at once.
- 2. Kill the Realmwalker and clear the Deathtoll Chamber for a guaranteed high-Torment key.
- 3. Chain Lair Bosses between events - their loot plus Belial ambush keys stack on top.
- 4. Spend banked keys on Corrupted Reaper runs - up to two Fragments each, plus Mythic chances.
- 5. Cash the reputation board and season-rank caches every session.
General Mythic-hunting routes that pair with this loop are in our Mythic Unique farming guide.
When to Spend & When to Save
- Spend when your build is stable and one slot clearly wants a Mythic - the same-slot rule means you control the slot, just not which Mythic appears.
- Save while your build is still changing - a craft locks 4 Fragments plus an 850+ Unique base into a random result, and you can only wear one crafted Mythic anyway.
- Remember the alternative - chase items in the Iconic pool are NOT craftable with Fragments; those come from the Blacksmith's Sparks recipe or natural drops. Check our Mythic Uniques 3.0 guide for which route your target item uses.
Tips & Common Mistakes
- Do not craft on day one. Early Fragments are scarce and your build will change - the cheaper 4-cost makes a miss less painful, not painless.
- Bank keys before Reaper sessions so you farm in efficient bursts instead of one-key trips.
- Use a quality base. The recipe consumes the Unique, so an 850+ base with a Greater Affix makes the resulting Mythic stronger.
- Push Torment. Both the Reaper's Fragment count and overall loot quality scale with the tier you fight on.
FAQ
What are Pandemonium Fragments used for in Diablo 4?
They power the Horadric Cube's Upgrade to Mythic recipe: 4 Fragments plus a Unique base of 850+ Item Power turn into a random Mythic Unique of the same gear slot, with maxed affixes and 30% more Unique Power.
How many Pandemonium Fragments does a Mythic craft cost?
4 Fragments since patch 3.1.1 on July 14, 2026 - reduced from the original 5. You also need a Unique item of the target slot at 850+ Item Power as the base.
What is the best way to farm Pandemonium Fragments?
The Corrupted Reaper is the best repeatable source - since 3.1.1 the Hoard pays up to two Fragments per kill, scaling with Torment. Around it, the reputation board's Glints of Hope reward guarantees one, and Resplendent Caches top you up passively.
Where do I get Superior Lair Keys?
From Deathtoll Chambers (reached via Realmwalkers and Surging Ruptures), which always pay at least one key on high Torment since 3.1.1, and from Belial ambushes that can trigger after Lair Boss kills.
What changed for Pandemonium Fragments in patch 3.1.1?
Four things: the craft cost dropped from 5 to 4 Fragments, the Corrupted Reaper now drops up to two per kill, the repeatable Glints of Hope reward guarantees a Fragment, and high-Torment Deathtoll Chambers always pay a Superior Lair Key.
Can I craft a specific Mythic with Pandemonium Fragments?
No - the result is random within the gear slot of your base item. A Unique bow always becomes a Mythic bow, but you cannot pick which one. Only the slot is under your control.
Can I craft Iconic Mythics with Pandemonium Fragments?
No. Iconic Mythics like Harlequin Crest and El'Druin are outside the Cube pool - they come from the Blacksmith's Resplendent Sparks recipe or natural drops. Fragments only produce standard Mythic Uniques.
How many crafted Mythics can I equip?
Only one crafted Mythic at a time. Naturally dropped Mythic Uniques are not restricted, so a multi-Mythic setup needs the rest to come from drops.
Do Pandemonium Fragments drop more at higher Torment?
Yes - the Corrupted Reaper's Fragment count scales with your Torment tier since 3.1.1, so push the highest tier you can clear comfortably for the best rate per key.
Should I spend Pandemonium Fragments right away?
Usually no. Wait until your build is stable and one slot clearly wants a Mythic - the result is random within the slot, the recipe consumes your Unique base, and you can only wear one crafted Mythic anyway.
