Marvel Rivals Death of Apocalypse: All Case Answers and Rewards

By Published ~8 min

Every confirmed answer for the Death of Apocalypse detective event: the exact Wolverine and Psylocke deduction sequences, persons of interest, case rewards, and when the final Gambit case unlocks.

Death of Apocalypse is Season 9's detective mini-game: three murder cases solved from your armchair, no matches required, each paying Units and an exclusive Gallery Card for filling a deduction page correctly. The catch is the interface, which tells you an answer is wrong without saying which one, turning honest sleuthing into twenty minutes of word-shuffling. This guide removes the guesswork: the exact answer sequences for every open case, the persons of interest, the mechanics and their quirks, and what unlocks when the final case opens. Fair warning by design: this page is one continuous spoiler.

How the Mini-Game Works

Every case runs the same five-step loop, and two interface quirks cause nearly all the frustration:

  • Read the Case Briefing first. It is flavor text, but the deduction blanks reference it, and skipping it makes the clue words feel random.
  • Click every glowing sparkle on the crime-scene image. Each opens a short dialogue between the investigating heroes, and reading it registers a clue word.
  • Quirk one: sparkles sometimes need extra taps. If the deduction page will not accept input despite a "complete" scene, return and re-click; a conversation occasionally requires another interaction before the game acknowledges the clue as collected.
  • Open the Deductions page and fill the blanks, in order. The case description takes its clue words in one exact sequence, and the Persons of Interest section takes three names.
  • Quirk two: the game flags wrong answers without locating them. A single misplaced word returns a generic failure, which is why trial and error is slow and the confirmed sequences below exist.

Case 1: The Death of Wolverine

The opening case. Collect every clue from the crime scene, then enter the deduction page answers exactly as follows:

Section
Answers, in order
Case description (12 blanks)
Bucky, Hydra, Murdered, Family, Wolverine, Berserker Rage, Host, Mechanical Arm, Tentacles, Hive Cells, Blood, Healing Factor
Persons of Interest (3 slots)
Jubilee, Wolverine, Bucky

The resolution: the killer is Bucky Barnes. Confessing that he murdered Logan's family long ago under Hydra control, he triggered Wolverine's Berserker Rage, the two fought, and the Hive Cells in Bucky's mechanical arm acted against his will, draining both Wolverine's blood and his healing factor so the wound could never close. Jubilee is the investigation's first suspect, profiled for her vampirism, and cleared; if the season's new Strategist is on your radar for more than suspicion, our Jubilee guide covers her kit.

What the scene itself establishes, for readers who want the clues to mean something: the heroes were deadlocked in argument around the Faith-Harvesting Engine when Wolverine, out of patience, went alone to the Lazarus Chamber to examine Apocalypse's remains, and the sparkle dialogues reconstruct his fatal encounter on the way out: the confession, the rage it detonated, and why a man with a healing factor did not walk away from a fistfight. The tragedy the final deduction lands on is that neither man chose the killing: Wolverine could no longer tell friend from foe, and the arm struck on the Hive Cells' will, not Bucky's.

Reward: the gallery card The Body in the Lazarus Chamber (The Mystery of Thebes #3), plus Units.

Case 2: The Death of Psylocke

The second case follows the same loop with a different scene: eavesdrop on the Emma Frost and Daredevil dialogues through every sparkle, then enter:

Section
Answers, in order
Case description (10 blanks)
Loki, Destiny, Paint, Blood, Psylocke, Watercolor Universe, Illusion, Magik, Undead Energy, Drawn
Persons of Interest (3 slots)
Psylocke, Loki, Magik

The resolution: the killer is Loki. Believing the key to the Ink of Destiny, the tool he needed to rewrite his own fate, ran in Psylocke's unique blood from her destroyed watercolor universe, he conjured an illusion of that lost home to lower her guard mid-seance, and a hidden arrow did the rest. The bitter punchline the case ends on: the plan failed. Her blood granted only the power to redraw fragments of lost worlds, not to rewrite fate, making it a murder for nothing.

The scene's dialogues carry the reconstruction: Psylocke, attempting to summon Apocalypse's spirit during a lull in the investigation, describes to Emma Frost and Daredevil how sensing his undead energy seemed to transport her home to her watercolor universe, a place that no longer exists, which is what tells the investigators the vision was a conjured deception rather than a portal. She let her guard down inside the illusion for an instant, took the assassin's arrow, and her shattered memories, pieced back together telepathically by Emma, are the case file you are completing. The killer, the deduction notes, had been watching her every move long before the seance gave him his opening.

Reward: the gallery card The Butterfly Trap (The Mystery of Thebes #4), plus Units.

Case 3: The Death of Gambit, and the Final Truth

The third case opens on July 16 and cannot be started early; until then its scene is locked and there is nothing to prepare. Two things are already known about it. It follows the identical loop, so the five steps and two quirks above transfer directly. And it is the gate to the event's actual ending: the event hub is explicit that solving all three murders reveals the final truth behind the death of Apocalypse himself, the mastermind reveal the whole mini-game is named for. We will add the confirmed Gambit sequence here the day it goes live; until then, beware of any page claiming to have it early, because the deduction has a single correct answer set that cannot exist before the case does.

Why This Event Is Worth an Evening

  • It pays the scarcest currency for the cheapest effort. Free Units are the hardest routine income in the game, and this event hands them out for reading and clicking. Where those Units go furthest, and how they combine with the season's other faucets, is mapped in our currency guide.
  • The Gallery Cards are numbered story collectibles. The Mystery of Thebes cards form the season's narrative set, they are exclusive to this window, and August 20 removes them permanently.
  • It is the only event you can finish from a couch. No matches, no grind, no queue: the entire reward track is menus and reading, which makes it the perfect content for a night when ranked sounds like work.
  • It is one of three clocks running. Season 9's deadline stack closes in order: Blood Hunt on July 30, this event on August 20, and the mission event on September 11. The full calendar with priorities lives in our Resurrection of the Horsemen guide, and the short version is that this is the middle window: not urgent, but not infinite.

The Evidence Board So Far

The season's mystery in one table, updated as cases close:

Case
Victim
Killer
Method
Motive
Status
1
Wolverine
Bucky, the Winter Soldier
Mechanical arm strike; Hive Cells drained blood and healing factor
None of his own: Hydra conditioning and the Cells acted through him
Solved
2
Psylocke
Loki
An illusion of her lost watercolor universe, then a hidden arrow mid-seance
The Ink of Destiny: he believed her blood could rewrite his fate, and was wrong
Solved
3
Gambit
Unknown
Unknown
Unknown
Opens July 16
Finale
Apocalypse
The mastermind, revealed by solving all three
Assassinated mid-ritual during his ascension in Thebes
Unknown
Gated behind Case 3

Notice the pattern the two solved cases already draw: neither killer acted from simple malice, one was a weapon in someone's hand and the other a gambler chasing a prize that did not exist, which is exactly the kind of table that makes the mastermind question interesting rather than procedural.

What Disappears on August 20

Everything, and none of it returns: the Units, all three Mystery of Thebes gallery cards, and the story scenes themselves, which are told nowhere else in the game. The cards are numbered entries in the season's narrative set, which makes them the collector stakes, but the quieter loss is the fiction: this event carries Season 9's actual plot, the confessions and reveals included, and once the window closes the season's central mystery becomes a story you can only read about. An evening before the deadline covers all of it.

Detective Priorities

  • First: clear both live cases with the sequences above. Ten minutes each with the answers in hand, and the Units and both cards are banked.
  • Second: mark July 16. The Gambit case and, behind it, the mastermind reveal open then; the final case is the reason the first two exist.
  • Third: read the resolutions even with the answers given. The final deduction scenes are the season's actual story beats, Bucky's confession and Loki's failed gambit included, and clicking past them wastes the one event built entirely out of narrative.
  • Fourth: do not save it for August. The event takes an evening, the deadline stack gets crowded when the mid-season update lands, and a menus-only event is precisely the thing that gets forgotten until the day after it ends.

FAQ

What are the answers for the Death of Wolverine case?

Fill the case description's twelve blanks in this exact order: Bucky, Hydra, Murdered, Family, Wolverine, Berserker Rage, Host, Mechanical Arm, Tentacles, Hive Cells, Blood, Healing Factor. For the three Persons of Interest slots, enter Jubilee, Wolverine, Bucky. The culprit is Bucky, the Winter Soldier, and solving it awards The Body in the Lazarus Chamber gallery card plus Units.

What are the answers for the Death of Psylocke case?

Fill the ten blanks in this order: Loki, Destiny, Paint, Blood, Psylocke, Watercolor Universe, Illusion, Magik, Undead Energy, Drawn. For Persons of Interest, enter Psylocke, Loki, Magik. The killer is Loki, who murdered her chasing the Ink of Destiny in her blood, and the reward is The Butterfly Trap gallery card plus Units.

When does the Death of Gambit case unlock?

July 16, 2026, and it cannot be started or solved before then, since each case's deduction only exists once the case is live. It is the final investigation, and completing all three reveals the truth behind the death of Apocalypse himself. The full event stays open until August 20, so there is ample time after the unlock.

Why does the deduction page keep saying my answer is wrong?

The interface flags that at least one word is wrong without identifying which slot, so a single misplaced clue produces a generic failure. The blanks accept exactly one sequence, which is why entering a confirmed order beats trial and error. If the page refuses input entirely, revisit the crime scene and re-click the sparkles: conversations occasionally need an extra interaction before their clue registers as collected.

What rewards does the Death of Apocalypse event give?

Each solved case pays Units plus an exclusive numbered gallery card from The Mystery of Thebes set: The Body in the Lazarus Chamber for the Wolverine case and The Butterfly Trap for the Psylocke case, with the Gambit case adding the third. Everything is free, requires no matches, and disappears permanently when the event closes on August 20.

Do I need to play matches for this event?

No, and that is its whole appeal: the entire event happens in the Events tab. You read case briefings, click clue sparkles on crime-scene images, and fill in a deduction page. It is the one Season 9 reward track that completes from the menus, unlike the Resurrection of the Horsemen missions or Blood Hunt, which both run on actual matches.

Who killed Apocalypse in Marvel Rivals?

That is the event's final secret, gated behind solving all three cases, and the third one does not unlock until July 16. What the solved cases establish so far: Bucky killed Wolverine under Hydra conditioning, and Loki killed Psylocke chasing the Ink of Destiny, a plan that failed. The mastermind reveal lands with the Gambit case, and we will update this guide the day it opens.
