Iconic Mythics are the 13 legacy chase items of Diablo 4 - the old Mythic Uniques like Harlequin Crest, The Grandfather and Ring of Starless Skies that became their own top tier in Season 14, above the new craftable Mythics. They are also the season's sorest spot: players farmed thousands of boss kills without seeing one, partly because of a bug. The July 14 patch (3.1.1) fixed that bug and raised the odds that a natural Mythic drop rolls as an Iconic.
This guide covers what Iconic Mythics are and how they differ from regular Mythics, the full list of all 13, the real drop odds, what patch 3.1.1 changed, and both ways to get them - farming and the Blacksmith craft.
Iconic Mythics at a Glance
The short version before the details:
Field | Detail |
|---|---|
What they are | The 13 legacy Mythic Uniques, now a separate tier above crafted Mythics |
How they roll | Always Ancestral with every affix at maximum and 30% Unique Power |
How to get one | Natural drop from the Mythic pool, or the Blacksmith recipe (2 Resplendent Sparks, random Iconic) |
NOT a source | The Pandemonium Fragments Cube recipe - it only makes standard Mythics |
Best drop bosses | Belial and the Corrupted Reaper, then Andariel and Duriel |
Patch 3.1.1 | Fixed the no-Mythic-drop bug and raised natural Iconic odds |
Equip limit | Only one CRAFTED Mythic (Iconics included) worn at a time; drops are unrestricted |
Iconic Mythics vs Standard Mythics
Season 14's Mythic rework split the old top tier in two, and the difference decides how you farm:
Aspect | Iconic Mythic | Standard Mythic |
|---|---|---|
Pool | Only the 13 legacy chase items | Any Unique in the game, upgraded |
Craft route | Blacksmith: 2 Resplendent Sparks, random Iconic | Horadric Cube: 4 Pandemonium Fragments + an 850+ Unique base |
Natural drop | A Mythic drop can roll as an Iconic (odds raised in 3.1.1) | Any Unique can drop at Mythic quality |
Quality | Both: all affixes at max roll, 30% Unique Power, two guaranteed affixes | |
The key trap: the Pandemonium Fragments route many players grind cannot produce an Iconic - its pool is upgraded regular Uniques only. Iconics come from drops or the Sparks recipe, full system breakdown in our Mythic Uniques 3.0 guide.
All 13 Iconic Mythics
The complete Iconic pool, with each item's role in Season 14:
Item | Slot | Role this season |
|---|---|---|
2H Sword | The king of the tier - a massive crit weapon for any class | |
1H Sword | S-tier speed farm: Elite kills slash all cooldowns | |
Helm | Reworked: +6 Ranks to all Skills, Damage Reduction removed | |
Ring | Resource-cost staple for spam-heavy builds | |
Helm | Nerfed hard in 3.1 (damage 80% to 15%); no longer a default pick | |
Amulet | Resource-and-survival amulet for drain builds | |
Chest | Defensive: resistances plus 20% Damage Reduction | |
Chest | Cheat-death insurance; lost its +1 passives in 3.1 | |
Helm | Poison-nova enabler for dedicated poison builds | |
1H Sword | Defensive Shadow sword; niche Hardcore pick | |
Polearm | DoT execute: enemies with more damage over time than Life left die instantly | |
Staff | Random Shrine effect on Elite kills; a Druid and Sorcerer novelty | |
Glaive | Spiritborn: marks enemies Vulnerable with guaranteed crits |

The Real Drop Odds (And Why They Felt Broken)
The math explains the community frustration:
- Step one: a Mythic has to drop. Every Tormented boss kill rolls five chances at roughly 1.5% each for a Mythic-quality item, so most kills pay nothing Mythic at all.
- Step two: the Iconic roll. A natural Mythic then has a separate, small chance to be one of the 13 Iconics instead of a standard Mythic - the layer patch 3.1.1 buffed.
- The bug made it worse - before 3.1.1, some Unique sources, including Lair Bosses, were not dropping Mythics at all, which is why even thousand-kill farming sessions came up empty.
The result was the season's loudest complaint: players reported a hundred Mythic drops with a single Iconic among them. The patch does not make Iconics common - it makes them possible.
What Changed in Patch 3.1.1
Three changes on July 14 hit Iconic hunting directly:
- The no-Mythic bug is fixed - sources that silently dropped no Mythics, including Lair Bosses, pay properly again, so boss farming is worth it once more.
- Natural Iconic odds raised - a Mythic that drops is now more likely to roll as an Iconic.
- El'Druin joined the Blacksmith's Mythic Cache - one more roll at the season's most wanted sword.
The same patch also made standard-Mythic crafting cheaper (4 Pandemonium Fragments, down from 5) - the full material breakdown is in our Pandemonium Fragments guide.
How to Farm Iconic Mythics: Natural Drops
Any boss at Torment 1 or higher can drop from the Mythic pool, but the odds are not equal:
Source | Why farm it |
|---|---|
Belial | The best permanent Mythic source in the game |
Corrupted Reaper | The seasonal boss - top Mythic rate plus Pandemonium Fragments on the side |
Andariel and Duriel | Notably better odds than the other Lair Bosses |
Undercity Mythic Tributes | A reliable roll at a random Mythic without a boss kill |
Higher Torment tiers | Raise both the drop odds and the roll quality everywhere |
A naturally dropped Iconic is the best outcome there is - it does not consume your single crafted-Mythic slot. Boss-by-boss loot is in our boss loot table, routes in our Mythic Unique farming guide.
How to Craft One: The Blacksmith Sparks Recipe
The only way to craft an Iconic directly:
- The recipe - 2 Resplendent Sparks at the Blacksmith produce a random Iconic Mythic. Because the pool is only the 13 items above, your odds per craft are far better than any general-pool gamble.
- Where Sparks come from - seasonal rank rewards alone can pay out up to 14 Sparks over the season, plus the usual first-kill and milestone sources, so most players get several crafts.
- The one-crafted rule - only one crafted Mythic can be equipped at a time, and Iconics made with Sparks count. Multi-Mythic setups need the rest to drop naturally.
- Polish after the craft - the Occultist can reroll one undesirable affix, and any Enchant or Temper you add lands at its max roll. Costs and order are in our crafting cheat sheet.
Which Iconic Should You Chase?
- For almost any build - The Grandfather (two-handed damage) or El'Druin, Sword of Justice (speed farm) are the safest wins of the tier.
- For casters and spammers - Ring of Starless Skies and Harlequin Crest remain premium generalists after the rework.
- Approach with eyes open - Heir of Perdition was nerfed hard in 3.1 and Shroud of False Death lost its +1 passives, so check the current state before spending Sparks toward a memory of an item.

Tips & Common Mistakes
- Do not grind Fragments for an Iconic. The Cube recipe cannot produce one - that grind ends in a standard Mythic every time.
- Farm bosses again. If you gave up on Lair Bosses during the bugged weeks, the fix makes them worth your keys once more.
- Save Sparks until your build settles - the craft is random within the 13, and the one-crafted rule means a wasted Iconic blocks the slot.
- Prefer natural drops for your second and third Iconic - only drops bypass the crafted-Mythic limit.
FAQ
What are Iconic Mythics in Diablo 4?
The 13 legacy Mythic Uniques - items like Harlequin Crest, The Grandfather and Ring of Starless Skies - which became their own tier above crafted Mythics in Season 14. They always roll Ancestral with maxed affixes and 30% Unique Power.
How many Iconic Mythics are there?
How do I get an Iconic Mythic?
Two ways: a natural drop (any Mythic that drops from Torment 1+ content has a chance to roll as an Iconic - odds raised in 3.1.1) or the Blacksmith recipe, which turns 2 Resplendent Sparks into a random Iconic from the 13-item pool.
Can I craft an Iconic Mythic with Pandemonium Fragments?
No. The Horadric Cube's Fragment recipe only produces standard Mythics from the general Unique pool. Iconics come exclusively from natural drops or the Blacksmith Sparks recipe.
Why are Iconic Mythics so rare?
Two layered rolls: a boss kill first has to pay a Mythic at all (five chances of roughly 1.5% each), and that Mythic then has a separate small chance to be an Iconic. Before patch 3.1.1 a bug also stopped some sources, including Lair Bosses, from dropping Mythics entirely.
What did patch 3.1.1 change for Iconic Mythics?
It fixed the bug that blocked Mythic drops from some sources, raised the chance that a natural Mythic rolls as an Iconic, and added El'Druin, Sword of Justice to the Blacksmith's Mythic Cache.
What is the best boss to farm for Iconic Mythics?
Belial is the best permanent source, with the seasonal Corrupted Reaper right beside him and paying Pandemonium Fragments on top. Andariel and Duriel beat the remaining Lair Bosses.
How many crafted Iconic Mythics can I wear?
The crafted-Mythic limit is one, and Sparks-crafted Iconics count toward it. Naturally dropped Iconics are unrestricted, which is why drops are the better long-term source.
Where do Resplendent Sparks come from?
Seasonal rank rewards alone can pay up to 14 Resplendent Sparks across the season, alongside the usual first-kill and milestone sources - enough for several Blacksmith crafts if you play the season out.
Which Iconic Mythic is the best in Season 14?
The Grandfather leads the tier as a universal two-handed damage weapon, with El'Druin, Sword of Justice the S-tier speed-farm pick. Note that Heir of Perdition and Shroud of False Death were both nerfed in 3.1.
