Version 1.0 went live on Friday, July 10, 2026 (Japan time, so most of North America got it Thursday evening, July 9) on PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Game Pass on day one. The update is free, the base price did not increase, and the launch pushed Palworld to nearly half a million concurrent players on Steam - its highest count since the original Early Access release, with the community now past 40 million total players.

Should You Start a Fresh Save?

Existing saves remain playable, but Pocketpair recommends a fresh character to experience 1.0 as intended, since the story, progression, and world were all reworked. Main and sub-mission progress is reset to fit the new reward structure regardless (tower-boss missions auto-complete based on your past kills). Two practical warnings: back up your world before updating, and delete old mods first - disabling them is not enough, and stale mod files from Early Access can corrupt a 1.0 save. If your group starts a fresh world, the Global Palbox can move Pals between saves, so an Early Access collection is not lost.

New Regions: Sunreach and the World Tree

Two major regions roughly double the map. Sunreach is an archipelago of floating islands suspended above Palpagos by Paldium energy, with blue grass and trees, a unique civilization, new Pals, new tower bosses, and Soralite - an ore found only here that requires specialized equipment to mine and feeds the new top-tier gear. You will want a flying Pal to explore it properly.

The World Tree, visible in the distance since launch but always out of reach, finally opens as the endgame region where the main story concludes and the toughest fights wait. It holds two unique resources: Paloxite, an endgame-only ore, and the Radiant Gems that power the new Awakening mechanic.

The rest of the world got denser too:

  • Ancient Ruins across the map offer exploration minigames that reward valuable schematics.
  • Watchtowers reveal the surrounding map when climbed and become fast-travel points.
  • New settlements at the Bamboo Groves, Snowy Mountains, Sakurajima, and Sunreach add NPCs, shops, and sub-missions.
  • Seven new small islands span volcano, desert, and ruins biomes, each with exclusive Pals, and enemy bases now appear at sea.
  • The three Wildlife Sanctuaries were rebuilt as protected conservation areas with unique scenery, exclusive Pals, rare materials, and powerful bosses - now patrolled by drones and searchlights you must sneak past or fight.

72 New Pals

The roster grows by 72 - 47 brand-new Pals and 25 variants of existing ones - for a total of 287. Most newcomers live in Sunreach, the World Tree, and the other new areas, though some joined existing regions, and habitats across the map were rebalanced so spawns feel more natural. Existing Pals also received over 100 new animations, from swimming to sleeping beside you. The new roster includes a sky-dragon Legendary, a giant whale Pal, and a sword-eel you can wield as a blade.

New Mechanics: Awakening and Mutation

Two systems raise the ceiling on how strong a Pal can get, and they stack.

Awakening

Awakening uses Radiant Gems hidden in the depths of the World Tree. Radiant Gems of each element combine into Awakening Gems, which you use on a Pal of the matching element to unlock its hidden power: significantly boosted stats, plus a golden glow on the Pal and its level display. Pal status screens now show the exact bonus values granted by Awakening and Souls.

Mutation and the New Cakes

Mutation reworks breeding: every hatch now has a small chance to produce a mutated egg, and the Pal born from it has higher stats and a unique passive skill. Four new cakes let you steer the odds:

Breeding combinations were also comprehensively reviewed, with the strongest Pals now intended to come later in progression, so early access to top-tier Pals is harder than it was.

Partner Skills and Passive Skills Rework

Over 200 Pals had their Partner Skills redesigned, with new effects like collectible detection, elemental resistance bonuses, team damage buffs, and base-work efficiency. Two structural changes matter most: identical Partner Skills no longer stack, which pushes team compositions toward variety, and many skills now work the moment you catch the Pal, without crafting Pal Gear first. Descriptions now show exact values and update as the Pal ranks up.

New passive skills arrived too, headlined by the World Tree passive category: huge bonuses paired with a real drawback, such as +50% Attack in exchange for lower Defense. Active skills were rebalanced across nearly all Pals - Holy Burst's hit count was capped and other elements' top skills raised to match - so party Pals can now out-damage the player. A new "Attack that enemy!" command (mouse wheel or right stick) gives you direct target control.

Work Suitability and Condensation Overhaul

Work Suitability expanded from 4 levels to 10 and was rebalanced across all Pals, giving base productivity a much smoother curve. Ranking a Pal up through Pal Condensation now raises one of its work levels each rank, and all of them at max rank. The grind shrank dramatically alongside it: max rank now needs 48 copies instead of 116, and the Capture Bonus completes at 5 catches of a species instead of 12. Lifmunk Effigies were reworked into Pal Effigies - you now collect effigies of many different Pals to boost your stats, and existing ones carry over.

Combat Changes and the Level 80 Cap

The player level cap rose from 65 to 80, with the tech tree extended to match and high-difficulty content - raid bosses, Tower Boss Hard Mode, oil rigs - rebalanced around it. Player movement was rebuilt for speed: the dodge is now a dash, you can attack and reload mid-dash, and rolling keeps better control. The result is a noticeably more mobile, aggressive combat flow that rewards closing distance instead of kiting.

Tower Boss Rework

Tower Bosses were rebuilt end to end. The fight timer dropped from ten minutes to five, with HP and stats reduced to fit; each boss now fights in a region-themed arena instead of the old copy-paste tower room; bosses shift tactics mid-battle, so old strategies may no longer work; and post-fight quests can recruit the defeated boss Pal to your side. Beyond weapons: the Wing Pack is a new glider that consumes craftable Wing Cells for free flight without riding a Pal, keeping a full five-Pal combat team ready while you travel. The Plasma Multicutter gathers resources while you ride. Extra weapon holsters raise your equipped-weapon count to six. New defensive gear includes the Ancient armor series and boss-inspired helmets, plus 44 new accessories with unique effects, Disposable Implants that grant strong passive abilities, and the Nutrient consumable, which temporarily stops hunger loss for you or a Pal.

Base Building and the Raid Rework

Base raids are now wave-based: enemies attack in successive waves, defense structures no longer consume ammo, the raid's level scales to your Work Pals, and a negotiator can cancel an incoming raid for gold. A mark now flags any base under raid. Builders also got new structure sets and decorations, including long-requested water-based foundations and furniture, so coastal, lake, and island bases finally build cleanly.

Multiplayer, Servers and PvP

Dedicated servers gained optional in-game voice chat, and guilds were overhauled with multiple roles, assignable permissions, login and logout notifications, guild markers, and structures that can restrict access by role. Discord account linking (Steam and Mac) makes inviting friends easier, and server performance was optimized for higher player counts with reduced save-corruption risk. A new Arena rank arrived with matches shortened to two minutes, alongside a PvP mode.

One widely rumored feature did not ship: server clustering. The binary carries groundwork, but there is no supported configuration at launch, so one dedicated server still hosts one world.

Balance, Economy and Quality of Life

The balance pass underneath everything is broad. The highlights:

  • Pal capture rates were raised, and lower-level Pals gain experience faster.
  • Treasure-chest gold is up 2-4x, and new items can be exchanged for Dog Coins at revised prices.
  • The Ultimate Sphere now costs 5 Pal Metal Ingots instead of 10, and several early recipes were simplified.
  • The Pal Box gained search, a Retrieve All button, and sorting by Expedition Power; the Paldeck gained filters for element and incomplete capture bonuses; crafting screens gained name filters and category sorting.
  • Quality of life everywhere: an auto-run function, a conversation skip, a weapon-list popup when switching, capture-bonus status on the HP gauge, vertical FOV settings for ultrawide monitors, loading-screen tips, and multiple mission markers at once.
  • Expeditions and fishing were extended into Sunreach and the World Tree.
  • Performance: optimized dedicated-server processing, open-world objects, and memory usage to reduce stutter, plus hundreds of fixes across respawns, boss progression blockers, multiplayer sync, and console crashes.
