WoW Midnight: What to Do Before Season 2 (Full Checklist)

By Published ~9 min

The complete Season 1 closeout checklist for World of Warcraft Midnight: every reward that locks when Season 2 (patch 12.1) begins - the PvP elite set, Keystone Master, raid mounts, Ahead of the Curve and Cutting Edge - plus the gold, alt and profession prep that carries over, and a priority order to finish it all in time.

The single most valuable thing to do before Midnight Season 2 is finish everything that locks forever at the seasonal reset - the Season 1 raid mounts, the Keystone Master reward, the PvP elite set and Gladiator title - and then prep the things that carry over, like gold, geared alts and profession knowledge. Season 2 (patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek) is expected in an August 2026 window, so the clock is real but there is still comfortable time to clear a focused list.

This guide is the complete Season 1 closeout checklist: exactly what disappears at the rollover, what only gets harder, what quietly carries forward, and a priority order so you finish the irreplaceable rewards first. Every section flags whether an item is truly gone at reset or just devalued, so you spend your remaining weeks on the things that actually matter.

When Does Midnight Season 2 Start?

As of now the game is on Patch 12.0.7 (Revelations) and Mythic+ Season 1. Season 2 arrives with Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek, and the exact date is not yet confirmed by Blizzard:

Blizzard has only committed to Summer 2026, before BlizzCon. Treat the August dates as informed estimates, not a locked schedule - but plan as if the reset lands in mid-to-late August, because the final two weeks of any season turn into a scheduling scramble. Season 2 itself brings the new Coiled Isle zone, the eight-boss Venomous Abyss raid, a fresh Mythic+ pool built around the new Altar of Fangs dungeon, the new Lairs world-boss system, a new PvP season and a housing update. The level cap stays at 90.

What Locks vs What Carries Over

A season rollover splits everything you own into three buckets. Knowing which is which is the whole game:

  • Gone forever - seasonal titles, the PvP elite set, Gladiator rewards, Keystone Master's mount and portals, and the Mythic raid mounts at their current drop rate. These become Feats of Strength or are removed at reset.
  • Harder or devalued - Ahead of the Curve becomes a Feat of Strength, and last-boss mounts drop to a much lower rate once the tier is no longer current.
  • Carries over - gold, collections, profession knowledge, renown, alts and your gear (which rushes you through the Season 2 opener). None of this resets, so it is prep, not a deadline.

The plan writes itself: spend your final weeks on the first bucket, dip into the second where a reward is close, and use any leftover time on the third.

Raid: Lock In Your Season 1 Kills

The Season 1 raid tier stops being current at the reset, which changes what its rewards are worth forever:

  • Ahead of the Curve (full Heroic clear) becomes a Feat of Strength once Season 2 lands - still earnable afterward in theory, but off the current-tier reward track and far less convenient.
  • Cutting Edge (full Mythic clear) and its mount are the hard deadline: the mount is only guaranteed while the tier is current, so a Mythic clear now is worth far more than a delayed one.
  • Glory of the Midnight Raider and its mount reward follow the usual pattern of getting harder or rotating out, so close it while groups are still farming it.
  • Last-boss and Mythic mounts such as Ashes of Belo'ren drop at a healthy rate now; once the tier is old, that rate collapses, so this is your best window.

If a final Heroic kill is all that stands between you and the achievement, our Ahead of the Curve boost closes it before the tier locks, and the Cutting Edge service secures the Mythic mount while it is still guaranteed.

Mythic+: Secure Keystone Master

The Mythic+ seasonal rewards are among the cleanest deadlines because they are removed outright at reset rather than merely devalued:

  • Keystone Master (2000 rating) grants the season's exclusive mount, title and the dungeon teleport portals - all of which are removed when Season 2 begins. The portals in particular are gone for good.
  • Keystone Hero and Keystone Legend push higher for their own title tiers, which also lock at reset.
  • Gear front-loading - even if you do not chase the mount, pushing keys now banks Season 1 gear that carries you through the Season 2 opener on the Coiled Isle.

The mount and portals are the priority: a Keystone Master boost locks the 2000 rating reward before it vanishes, and a Mythic+ rating push gets you there fast if you are close.

PvP: The Elite Set & Gladiator Deadline

PvP has the harshest reset in the game - almost every cosmetic reward is season-locked and never returns. The rating milestones and what each one locks:

Rating
Reward
At reset
1800
Elite PvP set (the season's elite transmog)
Removed forever - the most commonly missed reward
2400
Gladiator-track progress and Elite weapon illusions
Season-locked
Gladiator
Gladiator title and the seasonal Gladiator mount
Never returns
Legend / Rank 1
Solo and rated title tiers
Season-locked titles

The elite set is the one to prioritise - it is the most visually impactful reward and the most commonly missed, and unlike a title it is gone the moment the season ends. Our Elite PvP set service secures the 1800 transmog, while the Gladiator boost locks the title and mount for players pushing the top bracket.

Delves & Solo Content

Solo and small-group content has its own season-locked rewards that are easy to forget:

  • The seasonal Delve title and track close at reset, and the seasonal Delve currencies convert to a generic resource - so spend them now rather than losing the exchange value.
  • High Explorer and no-death Delve titles are seasonal Feats that stop being earnable on the current track.
  • The Nullaeus challenge and other one-off solo rewards are worth clearing while the season's scaling still matches your gear.

A Midnight Delves boost clears the seasonal track and its rewards before the cutoff if solo content is not where you want to spend your final weeks.

World Content & Limited-Time Events

Several running events are timed to end alongside the season, taking their exclusive rewards with them:

  • Turbulent Timeways is running now and ends around the patch launch. Its rotating buffs are also the fastest current leveling and catch-up, so it doubles as alt prep.
  • Prey system rewards - the Midnight endgame hunt has seasonal cosmetics and mounts worth finishing before the framework updates in Season 2.
  • Ashes of Belo'ren, Umbral Ashes and the seasonal Gladiator mount are the marquee limited rewards the community flags as most-missed - none are guaranteed to return.

If you want the event mounts without the grind, our Turbulent Timeways boost clears the event rewards while it is still active.

Spend Currencies & Bank Your Vault

Season-specific currencies rarely survive a reset intact, so the last weeks are for spending, not hoarding:

  • Spend seasonal crests and currencies on gear, crafting or catch-up before they convert or cap out. Unspent seasonal currency is the most common regret at a rollover.
  • Do not skip the Great Vault in your final weeks - each weekly is free Season 1 gear that raises your Season 2 starting point.
  • Empty your bags of BoEs and crafting mats you will not carry, and bank sockets and cheap upgrades for the leveling push.

A full Great Vault boost fills every slot in your remaining weeks if you cannot commit the playtime.

Prep That Carries Into Season 2

Everything here survives the reset, so it is the lowest-priority work - but it is what makes your Season 2 launch smooth instead of a week-one scramble:

  • Gold is king at every patch - repairs, crafted gear, consumables and the first-week auction house spike all hit at once. A WoW gold stockpile is the single most flexible prep.
  • Level and gear your alts now, while Timewalking and event bonuses make it fast - and consider a Haranir for the allied-race transmog unlock. A Midnight level boost gets a fresh character to 90 quickly.
  • Profession knowledge carries over and compounds, so bank knowledge points and finish your kits - a professions kit gets a crafter ready for the Season 2 economy.
  • Gear is a head start, not a reset - your Season 1 Heroic and Mythic gear rushes you through the Coiled Isle baseline and early Altar of Fangs runs. A gear boost now pays off on day one.
  • Renown and reputations stay account-wide, so top off any that unlock rewards or convenience.

What Season 2 Brings

Knowing what is coming helps you decide what is worth finishing. Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek, delivers a content-heavy drop:

  • The Coiled Isle - a new snake-themed outdoor zone east of Zul'Aman that anchors the season's questing and world content.
  • Venomous Abyss - a new eight-boss raid ending on Ula'tek, the season's full raid tier.
  • A refreshed Mythic+ pool built around the new Altar of Fangs dungeon, with legacy returns including Temple of Sethraliss.
  • Lairs - a new world-boss system, plus new Delves and Prey updates.
  • A housing update with new blueprints and build options, and a new PvP season with fresh rewards to chase.

The takeaway: Season 2 is a full gear reset, so Season 1 ratings and gear stop being current - which is exactly why the locked rewards above are use-it-or-lose-it.

Priority Order: What to Do First

With limited weeks, do the irreplaceable rewards first and the carry-over prep last:

  • 1. PvP elite set at 1800 - the most-missed reward, gone at reset.
  • 2. Keystone Master - the mount, title and portals are removed, not just devalued.
  • 3. Cutting Edge or the Mythic raid mount while the tier is current and the drop rate is high.
  • 4. Ahead of the Curve and Glory before they become Feats of Strength.
  • 5. Event and Delve rewards - Turbulent Timeways, Prey, the seasonal Delve title.
  • 6. Spend currencies and run your last Vaults.
  • 7. Prep - gold, alts, professions, gear - anything left over.

Tips & Common Mistakes

  • Do not wait for the official date. The last two weeks are a scramble for groups, so finish rating and raid rewards while raids and keys are still well-populated.
  • Pick one goal at a time. Splitting effort across PvE, PvP and Delves at once is how people miss all three - clear the highest-priority reward, then move on.
  • Elite set over titles. A transmog is visible forever; if you can only secure one PvP reward, make it the 1800 set.
  • Bank gear even if you are done chasing rewards. Every item level shortens your Season 2 opener.
  • Spend, do not hoard. Seasonal currency left in the bank at reset is the most common avoidable loss.

FAQ

When does WoW Midnight Season 2 start?

Season 2 arrives with Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek, expected in an August 2026 window - community estimates point to the patch around August 11 and the season around August 18, one week later. Blizzard has only confirmed Summer 2026, before BlizzCon on September 12, so treat the August dates as estimates.

What rewards go away when Season 2 begins?

The PvP elite set and Gladiator rewards, the Keystone Master mount, title and dungeon portals, the seasonal Delve title, and event rewards like Turbulent Timeways. Ahead of the Curve and Glory become Feats of Strength, and Mythic raid mounts drop at a far lower rate once the tier is no longer current.

What is the single most important thing to finish before Season 2?

The PvP elite set at 1800 rating - it is the most visually impactful reward, the most commonly missed, and it is removed the moment the season ends. After that, prioritise Keystone Master (mount and portals removed) and your current-tier raid mounts.

Does my gear carry over to Season 2?

Yes. Gear does not reset - your Season 1 Heroic and Mythic gear rushes you through the Coiled Isle baseline and early Altar of Fangs runs. It stops being current for endgame, but it is a real head start, so banking item level now pays off on day one.

Should I spend my seasonal currency before the reset?

Yes. Seasonal crests and currencies typically convert to a generic resource or cap out at the rollover, so spend them on gear, crafting or catch-up first. Unspent seasonal currency is the most common avoidable loss at a season change.

Is it worth leveling alts before Season 2?

Yes, if you have time after the locked rewards. Alts, gold, professions and renown all carry over, and Timewalking plus event bonuses make leveling fast right now. A Haranir alt also unlocks the allied-race transmog appearance.

Does Ahead of the Curve disappear at the reset?

It becomes a Feat of Strength when Season 2 launches - technically still earnable afterward, but off the current reward track and much harder to organise. If you are one Heroic clear away, close it now while groups are farming it.

What is coming in Season 2?

Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula'tek, adds the Coiled Isle zone, the eight-boss Venomous Abyss raid, a refreshed Mythic+ pool around the new Altar of Fangs dungeon, the new Lairs world-boss system, a housing update and a new PvP season. The level cap stays at 90.
