The Naigtal & Val Showdowns are patch 12.0.7 Revelations' new outdoor system, sending you through an unstable Voidstorm portal to two rotating worlds to hunt the leaders behind the Void Incursions - and to farm a fresh batch of mounts, pets and transmog. You unlock them with a short questline from Riftblade Maella in Silvermoon City, then earn two currencies, Voidlight Marl and Field Accolades, to buy the rewards. The headline collectibles are three mounts, two of them costing 1,500 Voidlight Marl each.
This guide covers everything: how to unlock and reach the zones, how the weekly rotation works, both currencies and exactly what they buy, every vendor, all three mounts and how to get them, Heroic World Tier, the world bosses and weekly quests, and an efficient farming route. There's no hard deadline - this content stays relevant all patch, so it's worth doing right.

None of this is on a timer. The zones rotate, but the system itself lives for the whole patch, so you can collect at your own pace. A WoW Midnight boost can fast-track the parts you'd rather skip.
What Are the Naigtal & Val Showdowns?
Showdowns send you to two reworked Legion-era worlds to take the Void Incursions to their source. Naigtal is a fungal, arcane-saturated world now held by the Hal'hadar ethereals - thematically tied to the new Sporefall raid. Val is a frozen, storm-ravaged Legion waste claimed by the Domanaar under Imperator Pertinax. The system expands the Void Assault framework from patch 12.0.5 with two twists: a rotating destination and a permanent Heroic World Tier.
A single unstable portal in the Voidstorm points at one world at a time and swaps every few days. Whichever zone is active is where that period's world boss, world quests, rares and Heroic rewards live - so the rotation, not the achievements, is usually what paces your collection.
How to Unlock the Showdowns
Access is gated behind a short introductory questline from Riftblade Maella, found by the Field Accolade quartermaster in Silvermoon City. The chain begins with Stalkers of the Stars and Veterans of the Great Dark, where you recruit Demon Hunters and Lightforged troops for the expedition before opening the portals.
The unlock is effectively account-wide. Once your first character completes the intro, Riftblade Maella offers a skip option for both zones, so your alts can enter immediately without repeating it. Vendor reward unlocks are account-wide too, so you only need to earn each achievement once - no re-grinding the same unlock on every character.

How to Reach the Zones Each Week
Once unlocked, you enter through portals in Silvermoon City or in the Voidstorm. The destination rotates on a schedule of a few days, so you don't choose which world you visit - you work with whichever one is currently active. If a reward you want requires the inactive zone, the practical move is to clear the active zone's rares and world quests now, then pivot when the portal flips.
When you click the portal, you'll get a difficulty menu much like entering a dungeon, where you pick Normal or Heroic World Tier. Heroic is the higher-reward option, covered further down.
The Two Currencies: Voidlight Marl and Field Accolades
Showdowns use two currencies, and knowing which buys what saves you a lot of wasted effort. Voidlight Marl is the shared Midnight Renown Quartermaster currency you already collect across other 12.0.x outdoor zones - Naigtal and Val feed the same wallet rather than adding a new token. Field Accolades are the Showdown activity currency, earned out in the zones.
Currency | How to earn it | What it buys |
|---|---|---|
World quests, rares, weekly Showdown quests, world bosses, and Heroic (which gives more) - shared across Midnight outdoor zones | The three mounts, battle pets and cosmetics from Kifaan; transmog (alongside Field Accolades) | |
Completing world quests, participating in zone events, defeating rares, and looting treasures inside Naigtal and Val | Void-recolour transmog sets from Fieldsmith Ventem (paired with Voidlight Marl) |
Because Voidlight Marl is shared, time spent in other Midnight outdoor content also funds your Showdown mounts. Field Accolades, by contrast, only come from inside the Showdown zones, so they're the bottleneck for the transmog sets. Farming world quests and rares is the most efficient way to stack both at once, so a steady world-quest and rare loop is the backbone of any Showdown farm.
The Vendors: Kifaan, Fieldsmith Ventem and Zuronar
Three vendors handle Showdown rewards, and most are gated behind achievements you complete in the zones.
Vendor | Location | Sells |
|---|---|---|
Naigtal, Umbral Base Camp (around 47.6, 81.2) | The three Showdown mounts, three battle pets, cosmetics, and the Bulging Ethereal Pack and Bulging Winter Pack (ethereal weapon cosmetics and a purple winter set) | |
Naigtal, Umbral Base Camp (around 48.6, 81.6) | Void-recolour versions of Midnight's Prey and World PvP gear sets, bought with Field Accolades and Voidlight Marl (these also drop from rares and elites) | |
Silvermoon City (around 50.4, 41.0) | Lightforged transmog and housing decor, most of it locked behind Showdown achievements like Prepared for a Showdown and Pain of Command |
Because unlocks are account-wide, you don't need to farm the same achievement on multiple characters - clear it once and any alt can buy the reward from the same vendor.
All Showdown Mounts and How to Get Them
The Showdowns add three collectible mounts, all bought from Kifaan in Naigtal once you've earned the right achievement. Two are pure Voidlight Marl purchases; the third is the reward for clearing the Heroic meta.
Mount | How to unlock | Cost |
|---|---|---|
Complete the A Trip Through the Stars achievement | 1,500 Voidlight Marl | |
Complete the A Trip Through the Stars achievement | 1,500 Voidlight Marl | |
Complete the Heroic Showdowns meta achievement (requires both zones, on Heroic) | Token Voidlight Marl cost after the meta |
The Voidmancer's Starcarver and Netherforged Nullframe both unlock from the same A Trip Through the Stars achievement, then cost 1,500 Voidlight Marl each at Kifaan - so collecting both is a 3,000-Marl investment, the bulk of your Showdown grind. The Tortured Gorger is the trophy for the Heroic Showdowns meta and costs only a token amount of Marl once the meta fires, but it requires participation in both zones on Heroic World Tier. If you'd rather skip the grind, a WoW mount carry can secure these for you.
Pets, Transmog and Housing Decor
Beyond the mounts, the Showdowns are a deep collectibles vendor. Kifaan stocks three battle pets alongside the mounts - the Frosticus Maximus pet comes from the Ultradon Carnage achievement (killing 100 enemies during the Val world quest Until It Is Done), and others like Cappy and Silento come from the affixed Void Strike activities and world-quest achievements.
For transmog, Fieldsmith Ventem sells Void-recoloured Prey and World PvP gear sets, while the Showdown Slugger achievements (kill six rares in each zone) unlock the Lightforged Armaments appearances. Zuronar in Silvermoon handles the Lightforged housing decor, gated behind achievements like Prepared for a Showdown and Pain of Command. Most of these pull from the same Voidlight Marl and Field Accolade wallets as everything else, so plan your spending around what you want most.

World Bosses and Weekly Quests
Each active zone has a world boss: Imperator Pertinax in Val and Nexus-Captain Leth'ir in Naigtal. They drop Warbound Champion-track gear, with the first kill on your account each week being a guaranteed drop. Rares in both zones can also drop Champion-level gear, once per rare per day, making them worth clearing for both currency and loot.
The weekly Showdown quests are where the steady rewards come from. On Normal you complete Showdown on Val or Showdown on Naigtal (followed by More Disruptions and Dangerous Enemies) for a Riftstalker's Cache containing a Hero-track Dawncrest, Field Accolades, Voidlight Marl, Coffer Key Shards and gold. The Heroic versions reward a Riftstalker's Overflowing Favor with a Myth-track Dawncrest and more currency - and if you complete the Heroic quest before its Normal counterpart, you get both rewards at once.
Heroic World Tier
Heroic World Tier returns from Legion Remix as a permanent fixture. Enemies gain affix modifiers, hit harder and have more health - it's a real difficulty step, not a cosmetic slider. In exchange, it pays out better gear, more Voidlight Marl and Field Accolades, and the achievements that feed the Heroic Showdowns meta and the Tortured Gorger mount.
A minimum item level of around 274 is recommended before you attempt Heroic, and a group is strongly advised. Heroic also unlocks the Knocking Off the Top quest: collect four Void Commander's Emblem from Heroic world bosses and weekly quests to choose a Myth-track Cloak, Belt or Bracers. If you're under the item-level threshold, the fastest way to catch up is gearing through other Season content first.
Efficient Farming Route
To make the most of each rotation window, lead with the time-sensitive activities and leave the flexible ones for filler. A clean weekly loop looks like this:
Step | Do this |
|---|---|
1 | Do the weekly Showdown quest chain in the active zone (Heroic if you can, for both rewards) |
2 | Kill the active zone's world boss for the guaranteed weekly Champion drop |
3 | Clear the six rares for the Showdown Slugger achievement and daily Champion gear |
4 | Sweep world quests, events and treasures for Field Accolades and Voidlight Marl |
5 | Bank Voidlight Marl toward the 1,500-Marl mounts; spend Field Accolades on transmog |
Because the zone rotates, plan around the portal rather than the achievements - clear whatever the active world offers, then switch focus when it flips. The biggest time sink is the 3,000 Voidlight Marl for both showpiece mounts, so prioritise Marl sources (Heroic weeklies and world bosses give the most) if mounts are your goal. To run Heroic comfortably you'll want around item level 274, and gearing up quickly through WoW delves is one of the easiest ways to get there.
FAQ
How do you unlock the Naigtal and Val Showdowns?
Complete the short introductory questline from Riftblade Maella in Silvermoon City, found by the Field Accolade quartermaster. It begins with Stalkers of the Stars and Veterans of the Great Dark, where you recruit Demon Hunters and Lightforged troops. The unlock is account-wide, and Maella offers a skip so your alts can enter immediately.
How does the Showdown zone rotation work?
A single unstable portal in the Voidstorm points at either Naigtal or Val and swaps destination every few days. Whichever zone is active is where that period's world boss, world quests, rares and Heroic rewards are, so you work with the currently active world rather than choosing freely.
How do you farm Voidlight Marl in the Showdowns?
Voidlight Marl is the shared Midnight Renown currency, so it comes from world quests, rares, weekly Showdown quests and world bosses - and Heroic World Tier gives more of it. Because the wallet is shared across Midnight outdoor zones, time spent elsewhere in 12.0.x also funds your Showdown mounts. Heroic weeklies and world bosses are the densest sources.
What's the difference between Voidlight Marl and Field Accolades?
Voidlight Marl is the shared Renown currency used for the top rewards - the three mounts, pets and cosmetics from Kifaan. Field Accolades are earned only inside the Showdown zones (world quests, events, rares, treasures) and buy the Void-recolour transmog sets from Fieldsmith Ventem, usually alongside some Marl.
What mounts can you get from the Naigtal and Val Showdowns?
Three: the Voidmancer's Starcarver and Netherforged Nullframe, both unlocked by the A Trip Through the Stars achievement and costing 1,500 Voidlight Marl each at Kifaan, and the Tortured Gorger, the reward for the Heroic Showdowns meta achievement for a token Marl cost. Collecting both showpiece mounts is a 3,000-Marl investment.
Do I need Heroic World Tier for the mounts?
Only for one. The Voidmancer's Starcarver and Netherforged Nullframe can be earned entirely on Normal. The Tortured Gorger requires the Heroic Showdowns meta, which means clearing content across both zones on Heroic World Tier (about item level 274 recommended, group advised).
Do I have to unlock the Showdowns on every character?
No. The unlock and the vendor reward achievements are account-wide. Complete the intro questline and the achievements once, and Riftblade Maella lets your alts skip the intro while any character can buy the unlocked rewards from the vendors.
What item level do I need for Heroic World Tier?
Around item level 274 is recommended, and a group is strongly advised - Heroic enemies have affix modifiers, more health and hit harder. If you're below that, gear up through other Season content first, then return for the better Marl, Field Accolades and the Heroic-only achievements.
