Midnight Hero Talents Overview — Trees, Unlocks & Build Tips

Published: ~20 min

Hero Talents are Midnight’s extra build layer that shapes how each spec performs in raids and Mythic+. This guide explains what changed in patch 12.0, how Hero Trees unlock and scale, and provides a clear class-by-class overview with capstone highlights to help you plan your builds.

  • Two Hero Tree options per specialization — pick based on your content goals
  • Unlock at level 71, then earn one point per level until the tree is filled
  • Raid vs Mythic+ — quick guidance on choosing the right tree

Hero Talents are an extra talent layer that sits on top of your class and specialization talents. In Midnight, they are a big part of “build identity”: they add passive scaling, proc patterns, and a few defining bonuses without forcing you to rebuild your entire rotation.

Midnight Hero Talents: Key Points

  • Third talent layer: Hero Talents complement your class + spec trees.
  • Two options per spec: each specialization normally chooses between two Hero Trees.
  • Unlock at level 71: you start progressing Hero Talents from there.
  • One point per level: you continue earning points until the Hero Tree is fully filled.
  • Three trees per class (and four for Druids).

How Unlocks and Points Work

You gain access to Hero Talents at level 71. From that moment, you earn one Hero Talent point per level until you have filled the entire Hero Tree.

What’s New in Midnight (Compared to Earlier Hero Talent Versions)

  • More depth per tree: Hero Trees gained extra end-tree options, making the final picks more impactful.
  • Less button bloat: many bonuses are passive or proc-driven instead of adding extra keybinds.
  • More meaningful tree identity: many builds now start by choosing a Hero Tree and then finishing class talents around it.

How to Choose the Right Hero Tree

  • Raids: prioritize stable throughput and predictable value in long boss fights.
  • Mythic Plus: prioritize burst windows, mobility, and tools that perform well in repeated pulls.
  • Open world and delves: prioritize self-sustain and fast, low-downtime pacing.

Hero Talents are easy to swap with talent loadouts, so it’s normal to keep at least one setup for raids and one for dungeons.

Hero Talents by Class

Each class section contains a collapsible Hero Talent table (similar to what you showed), plus a quick capstone summary. Links are Wowhead-ready for your tooltip script.

  • Rider of the Apocalypse (Frost & Unholy): Apocalypse Now — Using Army of the Dead or Frostwyrm’s Fury, you call on all Four Horsemen to fight for 20 seconds, dealing area-of-effect damage and inflicting fear.
  • San’layn (Unholy & Blood): Gift of the San'layn — While Vampiric Blood or Dark Transformation is active, you gain Gift of the San’layn: Essence of the Blood Queen’s effects double, and Heart Strike/Scourge Strike are replaced by Vampiric Strike.
