Renown and Reputation Are Two Different Systems

Everything on this page is called reputation, but the modern game and the old game run on different rules, and the difference decides how long a grind actually takes:

The line that matters most is the third one. Renown is Warband-shared, so progress earned on any character counts once and never has to be rebuilt on an alt. Classic reputation is not: an old faction grind belongs to the character that ran it, which is exactly why those are the ones people pay to skip rather than repeat.

The Midnight Renown Factions

Midnight launched with four major Renown factions, one for each zone of Quel'Thalas, each unlocked early in that zone's storyline. The Silvermoon Court sits in Eversong Woods and is really five tracks in one, since the Blood Knights, Farstriders, Magisters and Shades of the Row all build separately underneath it. The Amani Tribe is in Zul'Aman, the Hara'ti in Harandar, and The Singularity in the Voidstorm, where the Ren'dorei under Magister Umbric fight alongside the void-born domanaar. All four cap at Renown 20 and charge 2,500 reputation a rank, which is 50,000 reputation to max a single faction. Their quartermasters all take the same currency, Voidlight Marl, and maxing the launch four earns Midnight Diplomat. One thing worth knowing before you order: Slayer's Duellum, the open-world PvP faction in the Voidstorm, is a separate reputation rather than a Renown track, so a Renown order does not cover it.

Patch 12.1 adds a fifth. Zul'jarra's Forces is the army Zul'jarra leads onto the Coiled Isle in the hunt for her brother, and it is the first Midnight faction that is not one tribe but four: Shadowpine, Witherbark, Revantusk and Amani soldiers standing under one banner against Malacrass and Ula'tek. It runs the same twenty ranks, its quartermaster is Jan'sari the Watchful, and its rewards begin unlocking at Renown 2 and run up to the Indigo Coiled Horror at Renown 17, a three-headed serpent from the new Writhe family. The whole track is Amani troll-themed, down to the housing decor and a new title.

The War Within Factions Have No Deadline

Khaz Algar did not close when Midnight opened. The War Within factions still hand out their mounts, transmog, pets and recipes exactly as they did, and Khaz Algar Diplomat still wants max Renown across its four core factions before it pays out. What changed is the pressure: none of it expires, nothing is seasonal, and nobody is racing you for it. That cuts both ways. There is no deadline to force the issue, but there is also no version of the grind that gets faster, and the world quests that fed it are a long way behind the current content. The same logic runs back through the older expansions, where the faction mounts, tabards and most of the game's transmog still sit behind the classic ladder, alongside the long collection achievements like 100 Exalted Reputations. How many Renown factions does Midnight have?

Four at launch, plus a fifth from patch 12.1. The Silvermoon Court in Eversong Woods, the Amani Tribe in Zul'Aman, the Hara'ti in Harandar and The Singularity in the Voidstorm all cap at Renown 20 at 2,500 reputation a rank, so one faction is 50,000 reputation from scratch. Zul'jarra's Forces joins them on the Coiled Isle with patch 12.1, running the same twenty ranks. Slayer's Duellum is a separate PvP reputation rather than a Renown track.

Is Midnight Renown account-wide?

Yes. Renown is shared across your whole Warband from the start, so reputation earned on any character counts toward the same track and there is no catch-up grind on alts. Classic reputation works the opposite way and stays with the character that earned it.

Where do I check my reputation and Renown?

They live in different places, which catches people out. Renown is in the Journeys tab of the Adventure Journal, opened with Shift and J, with Midnight picked from the dropdown. Older reputations are in the Reputation tab of your character sheet, reachable with the U key.

How much reputation does Exalted take?

42,000 from Neutral, across four standings: 3,000 to Friendly, another 6,000 to Honored, 12,000 more to Revered, then 21,000 on top to reach Exalted. That is per faction and per character, which is what makes the older grinds long rather than hard.

Is the 100 Exalted Reputations achievement account-wide?

Yes, since Tides of Vengeance. Reputations earned on any character count toward the same total, so nothing has to be re-farmed on an alt to make the achievement tick over.

What happens to my reputation if I change faction?

If the faction has an opposite-side counterpart, your standing transfers to it. If it does not, the standing resets to Neutral. Reputations that were never tied to the Horde or the Alliance in the first place are unaffected.
