Why Mythic +10 Is the Last Key Level That Improves Your Gear

Mythic+ loot climbs with the key level, but not forever. End-of-dungeon rewards step up a few item levels at a time from +2 upward, and the climb stops at +10. A completed +10 hands out item level 311 gear at the end of the dungeon, and that is the highest end-of-dungeon item level any Mythic+ key pays out in Season 2. Push the key higher and the loot does not follow.

That single fact is why the +10 bracket is the one people actually buy. Everything below it pays less gear for the same hour of play, and everything above it pays the same gear for a harder run. It is the efficiency point of the whole ladder, and the level to book when the goal is gear rather than a rating number.

The Season 2 Key Level Ladder

Read the table from the bottom up and the case for +10 is easy to see. Moving from +9 to +10 lifts your end-of-dungeon loot by three item levels and your Great Vault reward by another three - and that Vault step crosses an upgrade-track boundary, which matters more than the number alone suggests. These are the Season 2 launch values, set with the patch.

Myth Mistcrests and the Crest Threshold at +9

Mistcrests are the Season 2 upgrade currency and they come in five tiers, with the tier you earn set by the content you run. Mythic+ has a hard threshold in the middle of the ladder: keys from +4 to +8 pay Hero Mistcrests, and keys at +9 and above pay Myth Mistcrests, the top tier in the season.

Myth Mistcrests are what move gear through the Myth track. Outside Mythic+, the only other source is Mythic difficulty in The Venomous Abyss, which means a +10 key is the most accessible way to bank them. No twenty-player Mythic roster, no raid night, no progression schedule - a five-player run you can book when it suits you.

Crests come from completing the run rather than from the loot roll, so they accumulate whether or not a boss hands you an upgrade. A key that drops nothing you can use is still measurable progress on every Myth-track piece you already own. Crest tiers and their sources are set at patch launch.

Why the 318 Great Vault Pick Beats Your +10 Drops

The end-of-dungeon reward is not the biggest thing a +10 gives you - the Great Vault is. Completing a +10 during the week sets the item level of your dungeon reward at 318, seven levels above the 311 the key drops at the end of the run. More importantly, 318 is the opening step of the Myth track, while 311 sits in the middle of the Hero track.

That track jump is the part most people miss. A Hero-track piece and a Myth-track piece upgrade to very different places, so a 318 Vault item starts higher and has more headroom above it than a 311 drop does. It is the single highest-item-level reward a Mythic+ player can pull out of the season.

Two things to plan around. How many dungeon slots open in the Vault depends on how many dungeons you run across the week, so run count decides how many options you get to look at. And the Vault is a choice, not a haul - you claim one reward from the whole chest each week, so more options simply means a better chance that one of them lands in a slot you actually need.

Where Mythic +10 Loot Sits Among Season 2's Other Sources

Item level 311 is not unique to Mythic+, but the effort behind it changes a lot depending on where you get it. Here is what the same band looks like elsewhere in Season 2.

Season 2 Item Levels by Source

Heroic raid gear covers a similar band, but it arrives on a weekly lockout with a full raid group attached to it. Delves only reach this band through the Great Vault at Tier 8, and their direct rewards sit well below. Mythic raid gear goes higher than anything Mythic+ pays, but it needs a twenty-player Mythic roster and a progression schedule to match.

Against all of that, a +10 key is a five-player run with no weekly cap on how often you can do it. That is why the +10 bracket carries so much of a season's gearing: it is the only source in this item level band you can repeat on demand. The raid and Delve values above are Season 2 launch figures.

Keystones, Depletion and Repeat +10 Runs

You never need a keystone of your own for this order, and we do not use yours either - every run is opened with our key. If a particular dungeon matters, that is chosen on the order form rather than solved by holding a key for it; left on random, the run goes wherever our key sends it.

Keys are not free to fail. A run that goes badly can leave the keystone depleted, which is what makes pugging a +10 expensive: you can lose the evening and the key in the same sitting and be further from a reward than when you started. Booking a team takes that risk off your account altogether, because the key on the line is ours and the run is played by people who do it every day.

Mythic+ keys are also not capped the way Mythic +0 dungeons are. There is no daily limit on how many keys you run, so the same dungeon can be repeated as often as you like - which is what makes +10 the practical bracket for farming a specific drop or filling a stack of slots in a short window. Timed or Untimed: What the Clock Changes on a +10

A Mythic+ run has two possible endings and they are not the same purchase. You can clear the dungeon, or you can clear it inside the time limit. Both leave you better off than you started, but they pay out differently, and knowing which one you are booking is the difference between getting what you expected and getting a surprise.

Clearing the dungeon is what sets your Great Vault. Finish a +10 at any point in the week and the dungeon reward waiting in the Vault is set at 318, the clock has no say in it, and the run banks its Mistcrests either way. That is the gearing half of the product and it is the reason most people book a key at all.

Beating the timer is what turns a gearing run into a progression run. A timed +10 pays the full end-of-dungeon chest rather than a reduced one, awards Mythic+ rating, and raises your keystone instead of dropping it a level. It also awards that dungeon's Keystone Hero achievement, which carries the teleport to the dungeon - a per-dungeon unlock, so each new dungeon you time adds another destination rather than repeating one you already hold. No key below the +10 bracket hands that out at all.

Which ending you want is a choice you make when you book, not something you find out afterwards. Timed runs are played on Self-Play with you in the group, so if a teleport or a rating push is the point of the purchase, pick the timed option at checkout rather than assuming a completed key covers it.

One naming trap is worth flagging, because it costs people money. "Keystone Hero" appears twice in Mythic+ and means two different things. The per-dungeon version is the one above: time a +10 in a specific dungeon, get that dungeon's achievement and teleport. The seasonal version is a rating milestone measured across the whole season, not a single run. A +10 boost delivers the first outright; it moves you toward the second without being a substitute for it.

The seasonal ladder runs Keystone Explorer, Conqueror, Master, Hero and Legend, and the tiers stack rather than replace each other. Reaching a higher one means the ones below it are already sitting on your account, so there is nothing to go back and mop up. If a seasonal title is the actual goal, that is a rating purchase rather than a key-level one, and it is worth buying at the tier you want instead of climbing it in pieces.

Above Mythic +10 the Reward Is Rating, Not Gear

Keys keep scaling past +10. Higher levels exist, they get harder, and people run them every week. What they stop doing is paying better gear. Above the +10 bracket the reward is Mythic+ rating, and rating feeds the seasonal achievement ladder rather than your item level.

That is worth knowing before you buy. If the goal is gear, +10 is the right purchase and anything above it means paying more for a harder run that hands out the same rewards. If the goal is a rating milestone - Keystone Master at 2000, Keystone Hero at 2500, Keystone Legend at 3000 - then the key level is only a means to that number.

Timed runs do award Mythic+ rating, so a stack of +10s moves you up the ladder as a side effect of gearing.
