Timewalking Fills the Same Vault Row as Keys

This is the part almost nobody selling Timewalking mentions, and it is the strongest reason to run it. The dungeon row of the Great Vault does not care which kind of dungeon filled it. Heroic dungeons count, Mythic dungeons count, and Timewalking dungeons count, all toward the same three slots at one, four and eight completions in a week. So a Timewalking week is a route to a Vault slot that needs no keystone, no rating and no group of your own, and it is worth the most in a week where keys are not an option, whether that is because the Mythic season has not opened yet or because your own key is in a state you would rather not use.

What a Timewalking Week Actually Pays

Three things come out of these runs and they are worth separating. The gear is modest: drops land on the Adventurer track at 266, which is a floor rather than a target, useful on a fresh character and ignorable on a geared one. The badges are the real return, because they buy from vendors stocking mounts, pets, toys, transmog and heirlooms that appear nowhere else, priced as though you intend to spend the week earning them. And the weekly Timewalking quest sits on top, asking for a handful of runs in exchange for a gear reward and a lump sum of badges that dwarfs what any single dungeon pays. There is also a small standing chance at a rare mount from the bosses themselves, which is a lottery rather than a plan.

The Event Week Is the Whole Constraint

Timewalking is not permanent content and it does not behave like the rest of the dungeon catalogue. A featured expansion rotates in, its dungeons become scaled and queueable, its vendors appear, and at the end of the week all of it goes away again until that expansion comes back around. Badges you already hold survive the gap, but there is nowhere to spend them until the next event stands its vendors back up, which is why holding a balance across a rotation is usually a worse plan than spending it while the shop is open. The practical read: decide what you are buying before the week starts, and get the runs done early enough that the vendor is still there when you go to hand the badges over.
